The River Project Sustainability Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025
Next Review Date: January 1, 2026

1. Introduction

At The River Project, we are dedicated to creating handcrafted furniture that not only draws inspiration from nature but also contributes to its preservation. Our commitment to sustainability is integral to our design philosophy and operational practices.

2. Our Mission

We design collections inspired by real-world environments—from forest floors to coral reefs—and channel those stories into each handcrafted table. We donate 1% of profits to nonprofits working to protect the exact natural elements that inspire our designs.

3. Core Principles

  • Design from Nature: Each piece is inspired by natural elements, ensuring that our designs reflect the beauty and diversity of the environment.

  • Give Back to the Source: 1% of profits are donated to nonprofits dedicated to conserving the specific natural inspirations behind our collections.

  • Small-Batch Production: We avoid mass manufacturing, opting instead for made-to-order pieces crafted through small U.S.-based woodworking partners.

  • Sustainable Materials: Our materials include responsibly harvested local hardwoods and non-toxic, vegan epoxy resin.

  • Built to Last: We prioritize durability and longevity in our designs, collaborating with woodworkers who share our commitment to quality.

  • Local Craftsmanship: Our partnerships with skilled U.S. builders emphasize quality over volume, supporting local economies and reducing our carbon footprint.

  • Project Transparency: While we are early in our journey and not yet certified, we are working toward B Corp certification and beyond, aiming for full transparency in our processes.

  • A Future in Partnership: As we grow, we aim to partner with over 20 causes, continually refining our processes to enhance our positive impact on the environment.

4. Commitments

  • Environmental Stewardship: We commit to minimizing our environmental impact through sustainable sourcing, reducing waste, and promoting energy efficiency.

  • Social Responsibility: We support causes that align with our mission, ensuring that our business practices contribute positively to society.

  • Continuous Improvement: We will regularly assess and improve our sustainability practices, setting measurable goals and tracking our progress.

5. Governance

This policy is endorsed by The River Project's leadership and will be reviewed annually to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
